FDA Approves First Over-the-Counter Continuous Glucose Monitor

March 13, 2024

The United States will soon witness a groundbreaking development as the Food and Drug Administration grants Dexcom authorization to launch its new product, Stelo, marking the first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor available without a prescription.

Scheduled for release this summer, Stelo targets adults not using insulin, particularly those with type 2 diabetes or individuals without diabetes seeking insights into blood sugar fluctuations from diet and exercise. Paired with a smartphone app, the sensor delivers blood glucose measurements every 15 minutes, empowering users with real-time data.

Dexcom has yet to disclose the device's pricing details.
